Every element has been carefully designed to reflect the community it serves, ensuring the space is not only functional but deeply meaningful. The design is incredibly intentional. This isnt just a building, its a space that tells a story, says Tony Nocita, partner at M Builds. Destiny Seymour, Anishinaabe founder of the Winnipeg-based design firm Indigo Arrows, agrees. We didnt just want to decorate a space; we wanted to embed Indigenous knowledge into the materials themselves, she says. We integrated star blanket patterns because they represent protection, warmth and community. And the colour palette was intentionalearthy tones that reflect our landscapes and natural materials that bring in a sense of grounding. Ka Ni Kanichihk's old building. When people walk into this space, they should immediately feel a sense of their community and a sense of safety and belonging, she says. Our people have always had deeply intentional relationships with space and place. This expansion is about more than just adding roomsits about creating a sense of home, history and belonging.
