HRmatters www.cphrmb.ca 6 O CPHR MANITOBA CHAIR’S MESSAGE BREAKING NEW GROUND On behalf of CPHR Manitoba, I am pleased to share that our Association continues to break new ground as we come to the final year of our current five-year strategic plan: To position the Association and profession as thought leaders, promote the CPHR brand, grow the membership and become self-regulated by 2019. Last fall, we sponsored the Manitoba Chambers of Commerce’s 2018 Manitoba Business Outlook Survey. The survey found that the number one challenge facing business is hiring and retaining quality talent. As a followup to the announcement of the survey results, the Chamber invited me to speak to their members as part of a panel at an MBiz Breakfast Series event. There, I reinforced the value a CPHR brings to the table in terms of solving this key business challenge. We brought in the new year by meeting with The Honourable Scott Fielding, Minister of Finance, to discuss the next steps in drafting legislation for self-regulation and prioritizing the protection of employers and employees. Since then, we’ve continued to work with the government to move this initiative forward. We continue to actively promote the value of the profession to the business community via an extension of our “Ask Me” campaign. Partnering with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, Winnipeg Goldeyes and TSN Radio during Winnipeg Jets games, our messaging has focused on CPHRs being the key to building a winning team. It was an absolute privilege to recognize all the leaders in HR who have made a lasting impact in their careers and throughout their workplaces at our HR Excellence Awards 2019. We also had the honour of recognizing and celebrating our newest Fellow CPHR, Roma Thorlakson. We were pleased to be joined by the Deputy Mayor for the City of Winnipeg, Markus Chambers, and Thompson MLA Kelly Bindle, both of whom brought greetings and spoke on behalf of their respective governments. And our membership has officially reached the 1,500 mark – the highest it’s been in six years – while interest in becoming a CPHR continues to grow. As we end our fiscal year and begin our next membership year in June, CPHR Manitoba will continue to break new ground on our mission of advancing the HR profession and driving business excellence. On behalf of CPHR Manitoba, I look forward to working with you – our brand ambassadors, advocates and dedicated HR practitioners – to continue to advance the HR profession, secure self-regulation and protect the public in Manitoba. Thank you and have a prosperous, healthy and memorable summer!
