A member of Fisher River Cree doctorates, Pachters maple- Nation in Treaty 5 Territory (Manitoba), Monkman has attracted attention for his vivid leaf flag paintings have sold forand provocative paintings of political subjects with a strong satirical slant, which pull over $30,000.no punches in their repudiation of colonialism. Using a drawing style, colour palette and lighting that evoke the techniques of classical 19th-century painters, Monkman mixes realism with fantasy in his subjects. His major works have sold for as much as the $87,750 that was paid for his painting Charged Particles in Motion.ATTILA RICHARD LUKACSInternationally recognized and represented in most major Canadian art galleries, Attila Richard Lukacs was born in Alberta in 1962. He attended the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design in Vancouver and moved to Berlin shortly after graduation. There he encountered the surging energy of the punk and skinhead movements, and soon made a reputation with oversized portraits of aggressive and virile young men. His compositions from this period often have an almost medieval simplicity. He drew inspiration for his well-known early works from painters like Dgas and Giotto, from models he drew in his studio, and even from pornography. In 2008, one of these pieces, titled Golden Alex (Highlander), sold at auction for $40,950. After Berlin, Lukacs spent time in New York and Hawaii before returning to Canada in 2003.
