b'FROM THE COOS DESKAdvocacy Rooted in SovereigntyTRACY ANTONEChief Operating Officer, Chiefs of OntarioS hekoli,It is my honour to welcome you to the summer 2025 edition of Advocate, the official magazine of the Chiefs of Ontario. This special edition marks a significant milestone: 50 years of advocacy and leadership in support of First Nations across Ontario. Our theme, Honouring 50 Years: Advocacy Rooted in Sovereignty, reflects the strength, vision and determination that have guided our work from the beginning. Its also a time to recognize the tireless efforts of our leaders and Nations who have pushed for justice, recognition and meaningful change over the past five decades. The Chiefs of Ontario has always been shaped by the voices of Chiefs, Knowledge Keepers, youth and community members. Their leadership continues to guide our path forward and strengthens every aspect of our work.As we mark this anniversary, we reaffirm our commitment to First Nations self-determination and to supporting Nations as they define their own futures. In this issue, we highlight the launch of the Knowledge Keeper and Youth Sector, an important step towards centring traditional knowledge and intergener-ational leadership across all areas of our work.We also examine ongoing challenges with the Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB) program and spotlight the importance of community-led health initia-tives that reflect First Nations priorities and ways of knowing. This edition is a space to honour the past, reflect on the present and look to the future. I hope you find inspiration in the stories shared and in the continued strength and vision of the Nations. Yaw^14l I ssue1 2025C hIefs ofo ntarIoA dvocAte magazIne'
