BOOKTheory of Waterby Leanne Betasamosake SimpsonLeanne Betasamosake Simpson is a Michi Saagiig Nishnaabeg musician, writer and academic, recognized as a compelling Indigenous voice. She has lectured globally, authored nine books and released acclaimed music. She been shortlisted for two Governor Generals Literary Awards, and her album Theory of Ice was a 2021 Polaris Music Prize short list nominee. In her newest book, Theory of Water, Simpson shares how she found solace in skiing, which she does often on a trail beside a creek near her home. While skiing, she meditated on the worlds uncertainty, including environmental devastation and social injustice, and asked herself: What might it mean to truly listen to water? This renowned writers journey to understand Indigenous peoples interactions with water led her to reflect on teachings, traditions and stories from her community, particularly those of her longtime friend Elder Doug Williams. She also reflected deeply on the words from other communities and began to shape a Theory of Water that reimagines relationships among all beings and lifeforces. Simpson weaves NishnaabegAuthor photo stories with her own experiences, offering a vision of water as a catalyst for transformation. credit: Nadya Kwandibens.STRENGTHEN YOUR VOICEREACH ASSOCIATION MEMBERS AND INDUSTRY PARTNERS ACROSS THE COUNTRY WITH TAILOREDTurtle Lodge Trading Post Inc. is an Indigenous-owned COMMUNICATIONS SOLUTIONS mail-order wholesale/retail company founded in 2006.
