BRINGING ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY TO THE NORTH The ATR 72-600 introduces modern systems designed to enhance both safety and efficiency in challenging northern conditions. Its advanced glass cockpit and fourth-generation avionics systems help reduce pilot workload by simplifying operation and improving situational aware- ness; which are critical advantages when operating in Saskatchewan’s diverse and often unpredict- able weather. Captain Cesar Mora shared first- hand impressions after flying the aircraft: “[I’m] [v]ery excited to say that it flew … very nicely and … better than advertised.” From a technical perspective, Vice President of Technical Services Der- ek Delf noted the excitement around these advancements: “What’s excit- ing is the new technology, … from the new air conditioning system to the glass cockpit.” Together, these fea- tures help ensure that passengers and crew alike benefit from a safer, more comfortable journey. SUPPORTING COMMUNITIES AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT The arrival of the ATR 72-600 at Rise Air – the first in Canada – is also significant on a broader scale. ATR CEO Nathalie Tarnaud Laude under- scored the importance of regional aviation in countries like Canada: “Regional aviation plays a vital role … it’s a lifeline.… People get access to education, health care and opera- tional opportunities in areas where the distances are vast and the roads are few.” She also noted that the aircraft brings environmental and op- erational benefits, including lower emissions and improved efficiency, which are important consider- ations as the industry continues to evolve. For northern Saskatchewan, these improvements translate into stronger connectivity, more reliable service and continued support for economic growth in the Athabasca Basin and beyond.
