technology Event planners are increasingly looking for ways to give guests more control over their event content. As such, many are renting interactive systems and technologies that enable guests to customize their experience and interact with presentations. For example, says Robert Thompson, Vice President of Sales with AV-CANADA, “We’ve had guests ask us to install a touchscreen kiosk that lets guests come up, build their own personal grab bag, and have it delivered straight to their room. We’ve also set up kiosks that allow guests to find out more about the activities around them and get information on future events.” Similarly, planners are incorporating mobile apps that guests can use to share their feedback or participate in group polls in real time. These can range from interactive schedules to feature-rich tools that enable guests to provide real-time feedback, take part in presentations and even use their built-in cameras to project augmented reality elements into their real-world environments. “Mobile apps aren’t new by themselves, but they’re becoming more advanced and empowering guests to interact more with everything around them,” adds Thompson. Gone are the days of CRT monitors and looped videos. Today’s associations are turning towards large-scale LCD panels and video walls such as those on display at sporting events and concerts. “Attendees have come to expect the same experience they get when they go to a large entertainment event, and video walls can accomplish that,” explains Melissa Deslauriers, Director of Sales & Marketing at Bespoke Audio Visual, noting video walls can be configured in many different ways and range in shape.
