The company saw a discrepancy in the way meeting and event space was being viewed by designers of hotel space. In their minds, previous designs for hotels were focused on banquet and meal events and meeting space was adapted around these designs. The company is now reversing the process to focus on the needs of meetings and events. The designs used in their recent renovations ensure these spaces have the elements to make the space oriented to meeting clients. This includes more comfortable guest chairs, finished tables without the inconvenience of cloth table drapes, privacy panels and otherSaskatoon Inn and Conference Centresuch amenities specifically targeted at meeting needs.Audio visual technology is now built into the structure of the room versus having to be brought in as an add-on. Operationally, coffee breaks and lunches are located at a central commissary that is easily accessible from each of the meeting rooms and offers more variety to the attendees at a more reasonable cost. These new approaches were used in the renovation of the Saskatoon Inn and Conference Centre and its 26,000 square feet of meeting space that was completed two years ago. More recently at the 390 room Residence Inn by Marriott Calgary Downtown/Beltline District, a new build completed March 1, 2019, these features were included as well as a floor in the hotel completely dedicated to meeting space.Focusing on the meeting space aspect of our hotels in these renovations and new builds has been quite well received by our clients, stated Philippe Gadbois, Senior Vice-President, Operations, It provides us with the tools to look at the individual needs of each meeting and event.
