She also envisions more blending of sports with cultural practices. Events like Tribal Canoe Journeys, a 30-plus-year-old event for Indigenous people of the Pacific Northwest, and The Living Skies Indigenous Basketball League (LSIBL) for Indigenous youth in Saskatchewan, are good models.Ultimately, Horn-Miller says women can start by teaching their children to care for themselves. Her own three children participate in swimming, judo andlike their motherwater polo. The biggest role model that a child is going to see is the one whos there every day, she says. Take a walk every day and better yet if you take them with you. My mother didnt go to the Olympics, but she did yoga, she ran 5Ks. Those were some of the best times of my OYEP@DEXTERRA.COM @OYEPCANADA WWW.OYEP.CA 416 985 2001 life, and I knew from seeing her that that was what you did: you took care of yourself. Just get out there and take care of yourself, take care of each other, be part of a team: sport teaches you all of these things!60Spring/Summer 2022'
