Photo courtesyof MNO.MTIS NATION OF ONTARIOThe Mtis Nation of Ontario (MNO) is providing culturally relevant services within healing and wellness programs to address, deter and end violence against Mtis women and children. The Victim Services Program, which has been operating for over 20 years, has six victim services coordinators across the province and two anti-human-trafficking coordinators in the Ottawa area. We support Indigenous women, children, youth and older adults, and people living with disabilities in terms of their victimizations, says Heidi Wheeler, supervisor of the program. We also have an anti-human-trafficking program that raises awareness and provides support to communities by creating partnerships, tools and training resources to increase knowledge about human trafficking.MNO also offers the Community Wellness Worker Program to address the basic needs of local Mtis communities. We provide workshops including healthy relationships, stress reduction, self-care and mental wellness, Wheeler says. We provide peer support, advocacy and refer-rals in the local community.In Ottawa-Vanier, MNOs Willows Weekly Drop-In Program offers workshops, cultural activities and supports related to victimization in human trafficking.We also have the Red Dress Event that were planning in Midland, Wheeler says. The Red Dress Event will take place in the local park in Midland and will be specific to honouring Missing and Murdered Ontario Native Womens Association15'
