b"COVER STORYMessage fromTHE PRESIDENTSTRENGTH AND HEALINGDebra Vermette Welcome to the commemorative 10th issue of She is Wise magazine, shared once again in the path of the summer solstice. This issue marks 10 publications and five years of bringing the powerful work of Indigenous women to the forefront of our discussions. In those President, ONWA years, we have navigated many paths and witnessed numerous ways that Indigenous women are making change in their communities. ONWA is honoured to continue sharing these stories and proud to celebrate the incredible work and achievements of Indigenous women. Together, we are collectively shifting the harmful narrative about Indigenous women in onwa.ca Canada to one that recognizes our inherent strengths and knowledge and prioritizes the @ONWA7 meaningful work we do. @_ONWA_ In discussing the practices of Indigenous women across the nation, we often return to healing; this is where the heart of change in our communities is taking place. For this 10th @onwa_official issue, were taking a closer look at the ways that Indigenous women are finding strength and healing from the grief and loss of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (MMIWG). From grassroots initiatives to organizational support, Indigenous women are moving together to respond to the needs of their communities and practicing their inherent ways of knowing to enact real change. This is what it means to be an Indigenous woman: to work relationally to support and care for our people in their journeys and help them move forward in a good way. The stories in this issue highlight the critical listening, witnessing and movement being done by Indigenous women across the nation that results in meaningful change. We see firsthand the ways that artistic practice, education and community engagement create paths for healing. The work we do today profoundly affects the work we will do tomorrow and benefits every generationthose who have been and those yet to come.To learn more about MMIWG, please visit onwa.ca/learning-resources-mmiwg.DebraVermet tePublished by: CONTRIBUTING EDITORDESIGN SPECIALISTAll rights reserved.Ingrid Green Bethany Giesbrecht The contentsof this is published for Ontario Nativepublication may not bePRESIDENT Women's AssociationASSISTANT CONTRIBUTING EDITOR Kevin Brown reproduced by any means, in www.mediaedgepublishing.com Sarah McPherson whole or in part, without the SENIOR VICE PRESIDENTprior written consent of the 33 South Station StreetSENIOR EDITORRobert Thompson association.Toronto, ONM9N 2B2Justyne EsseryToll Free: 1-866-480-4717SALES / BRANCH She is Wise is printed robertt@mediaedge.ca MANAGERon 10% post-consumer Return undeliverables to: NATIONAL SALES EXECUTIVESNancie Priv FSC certified paper using P.O.
