Anishinabek Nation shifted to 
online resources. From 2020-
2023, we created two resources. 
The first was “Ezhi-Nawending: 
How We Are Related,” which is 
all about wampum and treaties – 
specifically the Treaty of Niagara 
and the Dish with One Spoon 
wampum belts. This resource 
has several videos and dynamic 
activities, including a few virtual 
reality videos.
“Gdoo-Sastamoo Kii Mi: 
This is Our Understanding” 
is a secondary school resource 
that includes built-in Ontario 
curriculum connections. Activities 
and questions enable students 
or learners to self-direct their learning. 
Both resources can be accessed through 
anishinabek.ca/education-resources.
In 2024, we held a Treaty Education 
Day at Nbisiing Secondary School 
in Nipissing First Nation, where we 
launched a wampum belt puzzle available 
in various sizes to suit various ages and  
fit the setting – in the classroom or  
at-home learning.
During TRW the following year, we 
held a Treaty Talk event in Sault Ste. 
Marie with treaty historian Clayton King 
from Beausoleil First Nation, offering 
both in-person and virtual participants to 
learn, reflect and connect these histories 
to the present day. We also launched This 
Is My Treaty – a book aimed at preschool 
and Kindergarten students.
This year being the 10th anniversary, 
we thought it would be important to do 
more storytelling and  
create additional videos for  
“Ezhi-Nawending: How We  
Are Related.”
Despite our continuous 
efforts, many people in Ontario 
remain unaware that such a 
week even exists. While there 
have been Living Library events 
hosted by Ontario over the years 
and various efforts to make 
people aware on social media 
and internally through Ontario 
Public Service, our hope is that 
Ontario creates more learning 
spaces and continues to work 
with its partners in a meaningful way to 
continue the promotion of TRW and the 
understanding of treaty relationships.
