b'FROM OUR CHAIRReady for Change? As we head into fall, some of us will embrace the change in the seasons, some will welcome new challenges (going back to school, new WCA courses, new projects), and others will be focusing on the changes at City Hall! Our construction industry is set for some significant changes in the upcoming months. As Winnipeg votes for a new mayor and new councillors, those elected will have to learn to navigate our environment, just as we will have to make new connections and relationships with those who can help facilitate projects. I never truly appreciated how political our industry is until becoming involved with WCA. The moving pieces at the municipal, provincial and federal levels all need to be considered, and thankfully, WCA helps all members understand those piecesespecially during election periods.Leading up to the civic election, WCA contacted several mayoral candidates, posing questions on topics that have a significant impact on the construction industry. On page 30, we highlight some of these responses to give you better insight into the views and priorities of these candidates. The candidates full responses can be found on the WCA website at winnipegconstruction.ca.Over the summer, WCA also released a series of five videos highlighting important topics and posing questions to the mayoral candidates. This is an impactful initiative that not only emphasizes our priorities for the candidates in a unique and personal way, but also elevates our industry. I look forward to reading the candidates compiled answers to all our questions. Their answers will help me make the best voting decision not only for Winnipeg, but also for the construction industry.Getting as much information on and from all candidates during an election is essential in making a voting decision. Look for some of this key information in this issue and by following WCA on LinkedIn or Twitter at @WCAnews, so that on October 26, when you vote, you make an informed decision for the industry!Ellowyn NadeauIssue 3 | Fall Edition | 2022 BUILD MANITOBA 7'
