b'FROM OUR CHAIRChange HappensAs I approach the last few months of my term as Chair, it leads me to think about all the changes that the future holds and how people go about accepting change. As you read this, the results of the fall provincial election have probably just been announced. No matter the results, change is inevitable. Considering all the new people running for all the parties, our government will look different. Knowing this, knowledge of what has been done before and by whom becomes more important than ever. Having the WCA team compiling information about our priority topics becomes essential as we potentially encounter new faces in key government roles. With prompt payment regulations being worked on, every diligence is necessary so that we dont take two steps back for every recent step forward.Come January 2024, the new building code will be in effectmore change for our industry! Although some architects and builders have been working towards the new code, the adoption brings the accountability that was missing for those ahead of the curve. Education on what has changed and how to interpret the new language is important for everyone in the industry. The more people that understand and know how to implement the required changes, the easier those changes will become for all involved. As WCA members, we all know that come February 2024, there will be a change in the executive. I will move into the Past Chair position; our Vice Chair, Roger Tuk, will become Chair; our Treasurer, Peter Bernatsky, will become Vice Chair. This is an established and transparent process that is understood and thus easily accepted. This suggests that if one wants to institute change, then knowledge of that change and WHY it is occurring becomes essential for all those involved. Without the WHY, the changes will not make sense and resistance occurs. Being transparent with respect to the reasons behind the change becomes just as important as the change itself.Ellowyn NadeauIssue 3 | Fall Edition | 2023 BUILD MANITOBA 7'
