b'SPECIAL FEATURE: INDUSTRY PROMOTIONMaya Bekerman, a Grade 12 student at St. Boniface Diocesan High School, appreciated the opportunity to explore the different careers and connect with women in the industry. Its a great opportunity to see all these different trades and try out everything. Youre never actually going to be able to go out on a real jobsite and just pick up a brick and lay the brick, so its nice that theyre able to bring this here and allow us to get our hands on it, Bekerman says. Theres so much more representation for women in trades. That makes me happy!Steven Kaban, industrial arts teacher at Collge St. Norbert Collegiate, brings his students to the expo every year. Our students are involved in a trade or apprenticeship program, and this gives them a different avenue, as opposed to a classroom, to meet the professionals who are doing it. And theyre much better teachers than the teachers are, truly, because [theyre working in the industry], Kaban says.Lana Francis, Student Support ServicesPTEC, Internships and Mentorships at Pembina Trails Collegiate, agrees. Its a great way for businesses to recruit workers, but its also a great way to engage kids and apply what theyre learning all day.Thank you to all our exhibitors, sponsors and volunteers for making the day possible! Stay tunedthe expo will return on May 7, 2025. Issue 2 | Summer Edition | 2024 BUILD MANITOBA 25'
