32 Spring/Summer 2026 FUTURE GENERATIONS Housing realities of Indigenous youth THE RIGHT TO HOME FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS F or many Indigenous youth in Ontario, the idea of a first home is not just a step forward – it is a matter of belonging. Housing, often reduced to numbers and policy, cuts deeper here. It is about the right to remain, to return and to call your own land home. “Some of the realities the youth are facing today to access safe and stable housing [are about] having affordable housing,” says Hunter Corbiere, an Anishinaabekwe business owner from M’Chigeeng First Nation, now living in the Georgian Bay region.
