AGM
T
his winter, Ontario’s roofing
industry leaders and allies
united for the OIRCA’s 2026
Annual General Meeting. The
event was held Jan. 15, 2026, at
the iconic Old Mill venue in west-
end Toronto, welcoming members
from across the province for an
afternoon of business sessions,
association updates and much-
needed reconnecting.
“It’s an important event for
OIRCA,” says OIRCA’s president
and chair Mike Godfrey of God-
frey Roofing Inc. “It’s the one time
of the year where we really get ev-
eryone in the same room to talk,
network and learn about what’s
happening with our association and
the industry.”
The weather was not in OIRCA’s
favour for its annual event. Yet, de-
spite taking place during one of
the region’s most disruptive snow-
storms, 50 members were still able to
dig their way out and make the trek.
These attendees took in several pre-
sentations, including a tech-themed
talk by Alexandre Champoux, CEO
of Civalgo, who explored the increas-
ing value of artificial intelligence (AI)
in construction. Honing in on roof-
ing applications, Champoux’s chat
offered a vision as to how AI can be
integrated in all aspects of the indus-
try, from planning to field work and
job closeouts. “Champoux’s talk was
a definite highlight for those that
came out,” Godfrey reports.
Another highlight from the af-
ternoon was an appearance from
Paul Forgues, the Canadian Roofing
Contractors Association’s (CRCA’s)
newly installed executive director.
Drawing on his 30-plus years of exec-
utive-level experience in multiple in-
dustries, Forgues spent his time at the
podium speaking to his ambitions at
CRCA while sharing updates from
the national association.
Down to Business
The Annual General Meeting
was the focal point for the day. Tak-
ing place after the luncheon, it in-
cluded a comprehensive review of
OIRCA’s 2025 year and insights, as
well as where the association is plan-
ning to grow next.
The AGM framed 2025 as a re-
set and rebuild year. Through mul-
tiple reports, OIRCA’s leadership
detailed the association’s efforts to
complete required governance up-
dates, approve a new Code of Eth-
ics, expand industry engagement
through events and plant tours,
support the rebranded Canadian
Roofing Expo (formerly the na-
tional ROOFTech trade show)
and deliver a significant Rooftop
Rescue project. The AGM report
noted that 2025 was also marked by
negotiations between the OIRCA’s
Labour Relations Section and the
Ontario Sheet Metal Workers’ and
Roofers’ Conference, resulting in
a new provincial collective agree-
ment. The financial business of the
association was also addressed with
a review of the 2025 financial state-
ments and the 2026 budget.
Plans to “fine-tune” OIRCA’s
strategic plan also took focus during
the AGM. In his statement for the
report, Don Marks, executive direc-
tor, explained that recent member
surveys have provided the ground-
work for a refreshed strategy that
will keep the association aligned
with its vision. “Our mission and
vision statements were kept intact,
and our priorities moving forward
continue to be our accountability
to the building owner, developing
business for our members, finding
new sources of revenue and increas-
ing marketing by embracing social
media,” he wrote.
Overall, the AGM signalled 2026
will be a year marked by leadership
transitions, financial stability and
continued advocacy for the ICI
roofing industry. As Godfrey said
in his report: “2026 promises to be
a pivotal year for the association as
we launch our strategic plan’s Op-
eration Plan, find our new chief
executive officer and fill the very im-
portant business development repre-
sentative position.”
“I know that 2026 is a bit of an
unknown for most members – es-
pecially with all this tariff business
and its impact on our economy,” he
added. “That said, I wish everyone a
very successful and profitable year.”
Snowstorms couldn’t stop OIR-
CA from a successful AGM. The
association thanks all members who
made it out to the event, and to OIR-
CA’s AGM organizers who brought
it all together.
