b'FROM THE COOS DESKA Vision of Unity and ProgressTRACY ANTONEChief Operating Officer, Chiefs of OntarioS hekoliOn behalf of the Chiefs of Ontario Secretariat, I am proud to welcome you to our latest edition of Advocate, the official magazine of the Chiefs of Ontario. This publication continues to serve as a platform for sharing the stories, achievements and priorities of our First Nations communities across Ontario, and were pleased to be bringing it back again for the 2024-25 year. The theme of this editionCreating a Better Future for the Next Seven Generationsresonates with the values and responsibilities that guide our leader-ship. It reminds us of the sacred obligation we hold to ensure that every decision we make today builds a brighter, stronger tomorrow for our children and grandchil-dren. What we advocate for today impacts our future generations, and we must be cognisant of why and who we are doing this for. This issue includes the incredible work being done across our Nations to honour this commitment. We are proud to highlight youth empowerment, such as the Ontario First Nations Young Peoples Council, whose co-chair shares her vision for the future. The efforts of the Womens Initiatives Sector to promote safety and empowerment for women, Two-Spirit and gender-diverse individuals further demonstrate the strides being made towards inclusivity and healing. We also spotlight the new Ontario First Nations Business Directory, which aims to bridge economic gaps and promote business opportunities. From advancing environmental education to building partnerships for economic reconciliation, these stories reflect the resilience and determination of First Nations business owners and community members. Also highlighted is the work of the newly elected Ontario Regional Chief, Abram Benedict, who is committed to building relationships with our Nations and governments to advance the work we do. We are happy to have him as our regional Chief and look forward to our continued work together. As we mark another year of progress, the Chiefs of Ontario remains committed to advocating for our inherent rights and responsibilities while building on these relationships with governments and each other. Together, we are creating a prom-ising future by honouring our responsibilities to the land and to future generations. It is with much gratitude that I extend my thanks to Chiefs of Ontario communi-cations team, contributors and readers who make this publication possible.Yaw^ko12l I ssue1 2024/25C hIefs ofo ntarIoA dvocAte magazIne'
