b'FROM OUR CHAIRReflecting on Recent Challenges,Industry Milestones and the Powerful Impactof Early OutreachAs wildfires continue to affect communities across our province, our thoughts are with all those impacted. The loss and disruption many Manitobans are facing is heartbreaking. While the construction industry may not be involved in the immediate response, we know our role will come in timewhen its time to rebuild and restore. When that time comes, our industry will be ready to step up and deliver. On the topic of building the future, I want to recognize two recent events that continue to spark interest in construction careers among young people in our province: the Manitoba Construction Career Expo (pg. 36) and Manitoba Women in Constructions Unlocking the Toolkit (pg. 32). While I didnt get to attend the Career Expo this year, Ive heard it was once again a major success, offering high school students a hands-on look at the scope of careers in constructionsomething we all know is difficult to grasp from a classroom alone.I did have the chance to attend Unlocking the Toolkit, a hands-on event for Grades 5 and 6 girls, and it was nothing short of inspiring. Watching these students pick up tools, try out trades and engage with volunteers with such enthusiasm was a powerful reminder of why outreach matters. It may be years before we see the full impact of events like these, but I truly believe well one day hear stories from women in our industry who say it inspired their career path. I cant overstate the importance of planting those early seeds.Lastly, I want to acknowledge the tremendous milestone of prompt payment legislation becoming a reality in Manitoba. It has taken years of advocacy, collaboration and persistence, but we got there. The WCA, alongside many industry associations and partners, worked hard to ensure this legislation reflects the realities of our work and supports fair, timely compensation across the board. Its a clear example of whats possible when our industry comes together to push for positive change.Wishing you all a safe and productive summer.Roger TukIssue 2 | Summer Edition | 2025 BUILD MANITOBA 5'
