b"PERSONAL STORIESFREEDOM THROUGH ARTSkye was born in Toronto, but her family moved to Kitchener not long after and she spent much of her childhood between Kitchener and North Bay. Today she has settled in Niagara Falls and is a mother of four and grandmother of three. While she is now in a good place, its been a long and challenging journey. At different points in her life, Skye experienced homelessness and addiction, as well as a mothers worst nightmare: having her child abducted. Throughout it all, Skye describes art as the one thing that was normal. When I was on the streets addicted to heroin, I would still draw. When my son was abducted, I would draw pictures of him, and pictures of things we would do together. My art always seemed to give me one piece of normal. In addition to painting and drawing, Skye also found healing by sharing her story with others who experienced similar hardships. In particular, she has attended a number of gatherings and conferences to speak about human traffickingengage-ments that can bring up many difficult emotions.
