b'MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT comes along with life. It helps remind me of the good in my life and connects me with my family and my culture. While Thamer Linklater believes that it was her painting that helped her cope during some of her most difficult moments. After a particularly painful argument with her mother, Thamer painted a flower, taking out her anger and frustration on the canvas. She has also scraped away at grey paint as a reflection of her many challenges with self-care and safety. She painted a landscape when she was at Safe Beds, a voluntary residential program providing psychosocial rehabili-tation services with a recovery-oriented philosophy. And she painted her piece Indian Horse after she saw the film adaptation of Richard Wagameses novel of the same name. It represents her relationship to the Prairies as an Indigenous woman. Regardless of the theme, our connection to art speaks directly to the power and healing that it has in our lives. As Thamer reminds us, it is a medicine, a salve. I hope that as you read this latest edition of She Is Wise magazine, which looks at art as a source of healing, you too will have the opportunity to deepen your understanding of the endless value of artistic expres-sion. It remains a vital link to our health and our happiness at all times, even now, especially now. Remember, each one of us is blessed with the Grandmother teachings that are in our DNA, passed down through generations of mothers, aunties, sisters, and grandmothers. Miigwetch and enjoy your read.
