GET ON THE ROAD TO SAFETY WITH CSAM ON TOUR Helping you bring an added level of safety and success to your jobsite Manitoba’s building construction industry can be one of the most rewarding industries in our province. It can also be one of the most challenging. Construction work increases during the busy summer months and it can be difficult to take workers off site to complete training. We’re here to help. Your Construction Safety Association of Manitoba (CSAM) is pleased to announce the launch of the construction industry initiative CSAM on Tour. With CSAM on Tour, the training comes to you. Contractors are kept up to date on safety regulations and requirements legislated by the government without having to leave the jobsite. CSAM safety advisors will bring their years of experience to your jobsite, providing contractors with direct access to safety information and resources. Demonstrations in fall arrest, hand safety, eye protection and safe lifting allow contractors and their employees to recognize the significance of safety. According to Stacey Lee Anderson from Manitoba Housing, Department of Families, the demonstrations on safety glasses and lifting weights improperly were particularly impactful. “Overall the experience was ideal for our staff to physically see and understand the importance of utilizing personal protective equipment,” she says. “The tour impacted the staff positively, built further awareness and provided confidence in the staff when using safety equipment on a daily basis.” The goal of CSAM on Tour is to provide contractors with safety awareness and to actively assist with the understanding and implementation of an effective safety program and positive safety culture. The tour recently stopped at a Bird Construction site, where site workers found the demonstrations visually helpful. “I thought the whole presentation went very well; the CSAM staff was very knowledgeable and interacted with the employees,” explains Bird Construction’s Gareth Sutherland. “I look forward to arranging more dates with CSAM on Tour to visit our Bird sites to help educate not only Bird workers but our subcontractors as well.”
