According to Statistics Canada, Building Permit numbers through April of 2019 are down just under one per cent compared to the same time period last year. On the non-residential side of things, permits are up over 25 per cent. This growth is being driven mostly by the commercial sector, which is up 53 per cent compared to last year. The institutional side is up just over 11 per cent while the industrial sector is down 18.7 per cent. The residential side has seen a 17 per cent decrease in building permit values through April of 2019 compared to last year. While single-home permit numbers are up slightly, multiple-family permit values are down over 35 per cent.
