Wiegers Financial & Benefits is a proud member of the Saskatchewan community, and is committed to helping make it even bet- ter. For the last several years, our community involvement has touched on many areas – we were most recently a finalist for the 2018 SABEX and ABEX Community Involvement Awards, and a finalist for the 2018 NSBA Community Builder Award – but our focus has been on fundraising for local children’s charities through our charity arm, Care for Kids by Wiegers. Established in 2009, we hold one major fundraising event every two years, the primary beneficiary of which was, and still is, Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation. • The 2009 event, featuring local musician Carrie Catherine, raised $50,000. • The 2011 event, featuring Saskatchewan’s own Brent Butt, raised $100,000. • The 2013 comedy and cabaret featuring Rick Mercer raised $176,600. • The 2015 event featured Shaun Majumder of This Hour Has 22 Minutes and Just for Laughs, and raised $225,000. • The 2017 event (captured in the photo above) featured Kelly Taylor and Myles Morrison, and raised $310,000. Our 2019 event is going to be our biggest event yet. Our fundraising goal is a minimum $400,000 but we recently launched our Kimmel Campaign designed to bring Jimmy Kimmel to our event. If he agrees to lend his support, we’re optimistic that we will raise significantly more dollars for Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation than we’ve committed to raising. Care for Kids by Wiegers is definitely looking forward to another incredible year in our community, and thanks everyone who helps us make a difference! Ron Young started Ron’s Plumbing & Heating (1980) Ltd. in 1977 in Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan. We are a mechanical and electrical contractor that provides service to the res- idential and commercial sectors as well as water treatment plants and sewage pumping stations. We believe in giving back to our community. • We are major sponsors of KidSport and the Pink Warrior Foundation in Meadow Lake. • Over the years we have made numerous donations to the Meadow Lake Hospital, local hockey organizations, Ducks Unlimited, Canadian Wildlife Federation, TeleMiracle, Jay’s Transport’s Tele Miracle Golf Tournament and the Meadow Lake Golf Course. • We donated the football scoreboard to the Lions Park and Carpenter High School football team – it’s said to be the second biggest in Saskatchewan, only behind that of the Saskatchewan Roughriders. 35 A Century in Review MCAS COMMUNITY
