WCA NEWS
CHAIR’S RECEPTION
Following the WCA Annual General Meeting, industry friends and colleagues, as well as a number of special guests, joined us
for our Chair’s Reception to celebrate our newly elected Board of Directors, while also mingling and enjoying hors d’oeuvres
and various food stations in The Leaf’s mezzanine and meeting space.
NEW DIRECTORS
ON BOARD(ING)!
A Competitive Process
Every year, WCA goes on the hunt
for new board members – and it’s no
small task. We typically see six to 10
nominations for just a handful of spots.
The Nomination Committee takes
its job seriously, digging into each
candidate’s experience, motivations
and fit before landing on the final picks.
Getting Up to Speed
Once the annual meeting wraps and
the new board is set, it’s time to get
those fresh faces oriented. It might
sound basic, but not every organization
does this well. At WCA, we make sure
our directors understand exactly what
they’re stepping into – and how they
can make an impact right away.
What They’re Taking On
There’s a lot to cover. The WCA board
also oversees CSAM, so directors get
the full picture – strategy, financials,
budgets and how everything fits
together. The good news? WCA is in a
strong financial position, and the board
plays a key role in keeping it that way.
The Responsibility
Board service isn’t without
responsibility. There’s some risk
involved, which is why we walk
directors through their fiduciary duties
and ensure the right protections are
in place.
Who They Represent
Directors come from across the
industry – general contractors, trade
contractors, manufacturers – but at the
board table, they represent WCA as a
whole. Their job is to do what’s best for
the association, full stop. And honestly,
that’s never really been an issue –
which says a lot about the people we
have on board.
Ready to Roll
With orientation behind them, our
newest directors are ready to roll up
their sleeves and get to work building
the construction industry.
