WCA COCKTAILS & CANDY CANES
It turns out holiday cheer doesn’t expire with the calendar. When a 
December snowstorm nudged our plans off course and forced us 
to postpone Cocktails & Candy Canes, we simply embraced the 
pivot – and kicked off the new year in style instead.
On January 8, 2026, we opened our office doors and welcomed 
members and guests for our annual come-and-go mixer. The 
décor stayed up, the lights kept twinkling, and our space 
transformed into a sparkling Winter Wonderland.
With delicious food, festive drinks and lively conversation, the 
evening was equal parts merry and meaningful. Thank you to 
everyone who joined us and helped us start 2026 on such a 
bright note.

WCA RELEASES MANITOBA TRADE DEFINITIONS VERSION 5.0
On January 1, WCA officially released Version 5.0 of the Manitoba Trade Definitions (MTD).  
The MTD establishes a mutual agreement among trades to identify the specific aspects of 
work for which each trade is responsible. This all-inclusive listing ensures no tasks or items  
are left unassigned.
The MTD manual provides users with a clear understanding of local trade contractors’ scopes 
of work, focusing only on the building elements included in bid or construction documents. It 
is important to note that the MTD does not provide guidance for building elements excluded 
from bid or construction documents, even if they are part of the trade definitions. While the 
use of the Manitoba Trade Definitions is considered a recommended best practice, it is entirely 
voluntary. The Winnipeg Construction Association assumes no liability for the accuracy, 
completeness or application of the MTD.
