40 BUILD MANITOBA winnipegconstruction.ca IMPACT BUILDERS I n August 2025, Justis Pederson pressed record on the first episode of Careers Under Construction. Over six months later, the veteran recruiter has built one of the industry’s most popular podcasts focused on careers, leadership and professional growth. “We named it Careers Under Construction because everybody’s career is always under construction,” Pederson says. “You could be coming out of university with a lot of runway ahead of you, or you could be a 55- or 60-year-old CEO. It doesn’t matter where you are on that curve. We’re all a work in progress.” The podcast – available online and through mobile apps in video and audio form – is an extension of Pederson’s own career. As a longtime talent acquisition specialist and president and CEO of the Pederson Group, a construction and engineering recruiting firm based in Winnipeg, he has heard his share of stories. While recruitment is a recurring theme on the show, the core reason Pederson stepped behind the mic was to give leaders across industries a platform to reflect on the paths that shaped them. “I wanted to hear from people who’ve reached a certain level of success and have them share the wins, the failures and everything in between,” he says. “It shows people what it actually takes to build a career.” At its core, Careers Under Construction is about perspective. “Our goal is to give these stories a larger stage for everybody to hear,” Pederson explains. “We want people to learn about different career paths and understand that your chapter one can’t be compared to somebody else’s chapter 10.” FOR OUR NEXT GUEST… Careers Under Construction is recorded on site at the Pederson Group’s downtown Winnipeg headquarters, inside a dedicated podcast studio Pederson built within his former private office. From there, he has hosted a growing list of notable guests, including Dom Costantini, a WCA board member and the podcast’s first-ever guest, as well as business owners, executives and industry leaders from across North America. “We have people from all different walks of life,” Pederson explains. “We’ve had people who’ve been in business for decades, like Mike Fata, who sold his company for approximately $400 million, and we’ve also had construction project A virtual stage for industry stories CAREERS UNDER CONSTRUCTION By Matthew Bradford INDUSTRY VOICES
