MEMBER MILESTONES
of the Electrical Contractors Association of Manitoba (ECAM), 
Cook spends time outside his office gathering new insights, 
best practices and perspectives from contractors across the 
country. Similarly, he says, Static’s membership with WCA 
has kept his team plugged into local trends and challenges. 
“The biggest thing for us is that WCA brings all facets of 
construction together. Their involvement across the trades 
helps put us more at the forefront. They’re really there for 
professionals – helping lead people towards where they see 
the industry going, and where it could be.”
SAVE THE DATE
With the 50th anniversary approaching, one question comes to 
mind: when is the party? “There will be a party,” Cook assures. 
“If anybody knows me, there’ll be a party – we’ll get the 
equipment out, invite the kids and do something fun.”
Surely, he adds, there is no way Static will miss the opportunity 
to raise a toast to Robertson and the company he started all 
those years ago: “It’s a big deal for a locally owned company 
to reach 50 years, and that we’ve been able to carry on a 
strong, established name. The fact that we’re still very much 
family-owned is also something worth celebrating.”
More than anything, he says, “This anniversary is about 
honouring everyone who’s been part of that journey.”

Go-to spot for lunch? 
I’m a big lunch guy. I’m a foodie. 
I don’t have a favourite, but I just 
love supporting local restaurants 
whenever I can, especially those here 
in downtown.
Advice for new hires? 
Your apprenticeship is just the 
beginning. This is a career, not a job, 
and the industry has so many paths 
within it, whether in the field, office or 
anywhere. Put in an honest day’s work, 
get your training and your ticket, and 
the rest can open up from there.
Philosophy for new hires? 
I want Static to be a place where young 
people are treated the way I’d want a 
company to treat my own.
Biggest change you’ve seen in  
the industry? 
Technology – it’s played a huge part in 
our industry and just keeps evolving. 
It’s incredible now – we can go buy 
tools for such specific tasks that save 
large amounts of labour on jobs.
Wisdom for peers? 
Don’t be scared of change and build a 
team you can trust.
