As I write my first president’s message for Build Manitoba, I do so with a deep appreciation for the foundation that has been built over 
many decades – and especially for the leadership of Ron Hambley over the past 26 years.
Ron’s contribution to the Winnipeg Construction Association and to Manitoba’s construction industry is difficult to overstate. Under 
his leadership, WCA became a trusted industry voice, a respected partner and an organization that consistently delivered value to its 
members. The tributes throughout this issue are well deserved, and I know I speak for many when I say thank you for the leadership, 
professionalism and steady hand Ron brought to the industry for more than two decades.
As WCA looks ahead, my focus is straightforward: ensuring this association continues to be an organization that delivers real value to 
our members and makes a meaningful contribution to the industry.
That means continuing to strengthen the services and supports our members rely on every day. It means helping new members better 
understand how to fully engage with WCA and take advantage of the opportunities available through our education, networking, 
advocacy and construction information services. And it means making sure that companies of all sizes – from long-established firms to 
newer entrants to the industry – see WCA as an essential partner in their success.
But it also means something more.
The construction industry is changing rapidly. Economic pressures, workforce challenges, evolving procurement models, technological 
advancement, regulatory complexity and rising project expectations are reshaping how work gets done across our sector. In that 
environment, industry associations cannot afford to simply observe change from the sidelines.
WCA will continue to be a strong and credible voice for Manitoba’s industrial, commercial and institutional construction industry. We 
will advocate for fair, transparent and effective policies. We will support initiatives that strengthen the industry’s long-term sustainability 
and competitiveness. And we will continue working with government, owners and industry partners to help create the conditions for a 
healthy and productive construction sector.
At the same time, we must continue looking inward and asking how we can better support our members in practical ways. Whether 
through education and professional development, technology and innovation initiatives, networking opportunities, workforce 
development efforts or improved access to industry information, our goal must always be to help our members operate more 
successfully and confidently in an increasingly demanding environment.
The construction industry helps build Manitoba in the most literal sense. Our members shape the communities where Manitobans live, 
work, learn and receive care. That responsibility matters.
It is a privilege and honour to step into this role, and I’m excited for what lies ahead. I look forward to working alongside our members, 
board, staff and industry partners as we continue building a strong future for both WCA and Manitoba’s construction industry.
