For more than 20 
years, Ron has been one 
of the most supportive 
and collaborative partners 
I’ve had the pleasure 
of working with. He has 
always brought a steady 
hand, good judgement and 
a genuine commitment to 
doing what is best for the 
WCA and its members. Ron 
leads with integrity, brings 
people together, builds 
consensus and always 
keeps the industry’s best 
interests at heart. Over the 
years, Ron has become 
more than a client and 
colleague – he has become 
a great friend.
      I have been on a 
good number of boards 
in my life, but I have 
never had the level of 
support from the senior 
member of staff that 
Ron has provided over 
the years at the WCA. 
A class of his own! If 
he wanted a job in his 
retirement, it would be 
to run an excellence 
program for wannabe 
executive directors of 
industry organizations!

      Over the years, I’ve 
seen Ron’s calm and 
effective leadership 
deliver results for our 
industry. Even when I 
moved to Vancouver, he 
found a way to keep me 
involved as a member 
of the nomination 
committee. He’s leaving 
WCA better than when 
he arrived, and in 
capable hands.

      I got to know Ron 
when I was a WCA 
member 15 years ago, 
and have gotten to 
know him very well over 
the following years.  
What sticks out to me 
most is that he gave 
me the same amount of 
time and respect when 
I was an employee of 
a member as he gives 
me now as a partner of 
a company and board 
member at WCA.

      I’ve known Ron for a 
long time – long enough 
to see his career grow 
from a rural economic 
development officer 
to president of WCA. 
He has his convictions 
and sticks with them to 
the end. Throughout 
it all he challenged 
the status quo to do 
better. Case in point: 
Builders’ Night Gala. I 
can remember early in 
the 2000s, I was at the 
RBC Convention Centre 
early on a Friday during 
setup. The staff were 
commenting on how Ron 
always challenged them 
to make it a premier 
construction industry 
event.

     Ron is always 
approachable at 
events. He always says 
hi and takes time to 
talk to me, even when 
I was very early in my 
career. As the years 
progressed, this also 
included ensuring to 
introduce me to certain 
people at events, which 
fostered additional 
connections on my 
end. My involvement 
with the WCA is largely 
in part due to his 
encouragement.

     Ron is a true 
professional in every 
sense of the word. Ron 
is always prepared on 
any topic and makes 
the chair’s life easy. Ron 
is also an adventurer. 
Some years ago, after 
a CCA meeting in 
Mont Tremblant, Que., 
Ron talked me into a 
two-hour ziplining and 
hiking escapade. It was 
a lot of fun!
